Drevas had three shows while in Switzerland, where she accompanied her husband, Carl Alpin, on a State Department mission from 1989-1992.
Moore makes images by distilling her vegetable garden, the Virginia Jungle at the edge of her cleared space, Old Rag seem through Joe Pye Weed into the unpredictability of creating paper from wet pulp. Moore uses abaca, beaten mulberry and cotton fibers as pulp. Each color is in a separate vat, being picked up on a screen and varied by water motion and order of layers of translucent color. Areas are masked out to form images, The uTaves, eddies around shapes and drops of water add to the delicacy and surprise of Moore’s paper. From her experience of making paper for ten years, she strives to “keep a balance between what inspires me to think of a piece and what handmade paper wants to do.”
