Saturday, Sept. 18 was a drizzly, foggy kind of day starting out. Our family reunion was to be held today at Lake Arrowhead in Page County. I wasn’t too sure I was going anyway, but I called my Mom and Dad to see if they wanted to. I felt if they did, then I’d take them. We had no intentions of staying very long though.
We left my folk’s house at about 9:30 a.m. and took a leisurely drive up the F.T. Valley, they on over the mountain toward Luray. Arriving there just shy of 10 a.m. we sat in the vehicle awhile watching as the drizzle became more of a show'er. The cool breeze and fog seemed to hold the doors closed on us. ‘ Momentarily we vacated the car and strolled around, then began hiking down one of the graveled paths toward the lake. How often can a person of 40 years claim that he walked down some path with his parents? Taking our time, checking out the flora and hoping to spot some ginseng, we walked some distance from the shelter of both the vehicle and pavilion. Some drops of water from the overhanging trees teased us, making us think it was another show'er.
We turned then and headed back, taking a slightly differnt path. Helping Mom cross one of the foot bridges, we arrived unscathed back to our starting point.
Mom had a list of things with her she had dictated from my sister which consisted of items my nephew7 was in need of for his school. It was now 11 a.m. and the “reunion” hadn’t started. We had checked out the bulletin board and the notice
