The Water and Sewer Authority approved paying $5,500 to ESS for alterations to the Sperryville sewer treatment plant to reduce surges when electricity is turned off to the blowers. Environmental Systems Services of Culpeper designed the plans for the alteration and was the only firm to bid on the project, member Charles K. “Pete” Estes noted.
He said he had made sure a test was run, and the alteration worked. No surges occurred when the blowers were turned off. He said he hopes that the change will allow the plant to save electricity by alternating times with the pumps running and turned off.
