take their children from public schools. While this candidate now attempts to walk away from these past positions, it would be a mistake to let him or any of the Republicans on that ticket near anything that has to do with public education.
• Which party can better preserve the beauty of Virgina?
The Democratic slate has supported laws which protect Virginia’s waters, laws which protect from hazardous wastes, and laws which protect lands and waters from oil spills. They have brought record civil penalties against polluters. The opposition’s candidate for governor has voted against similar types of legislation, while at the same time receiving thousands of dollars in contributions from oil interests.
• Which party will best protect a woman’s right to privacy?
Here the extreme position of the Republican ticket is out of step with most Virginians. They would inject the power of government into one of the most personal and private decisions a women can make for herself.
We can choose a ticket that, although bland and somewhat boring, will continue the progress and stability of the past 12 years or we can choose an untried group of inexperienced, but slick extremists who will endanger our schools, our environment and our economic well being. I urge you to vote for stability, reason and moderation. I urge you to vote Democratic, for Mary Sue Terry, Don Beyer and Bill Dolan.
