In 1973, my husband and I got; lost on our way from New York to" New Orleans, and ended up in Rappahannock County. It felt like we had wandered back into the Garden of Eden. Over the next twenty years' we came down as often as we could * and were always surprised and re-* lieved to find that the landscape! looked pretty much the same. *
Recently we were able to move to the land of our dreams, and shortly after, were dismayed by the - four-laningof U.S. 211 and proposed! high-speed by-pass through Sperry-1 ville. Now, it is a power line that; threatens this precious environ- - ment. *
Do y’all remember an old Joni' Mitchell song, the refrain of which, went “don’t it always seem to go, ■* you don’t know what you’ve got ’til - it’s gone?” I
I urge everyone who knows what * we’ve got here and wants to hang; onto it to get behind the letter-writ-! ing effort to oppose the line. NANCY and SCOTT McBRIDE

George Allen is my choice for * Governor in the general election on Nov. 2. I am pleased to support him* and serve as Chairman of Virginians.* for Allen, a large and growing group! of concerned voters, mostly conser-ij vative Democrats and Independent^ who are actively urging their friends*; to elect George Allen. !•
We see a Virginia today facing a,! serious fiscal crisis with a currents projected budget by the time the!; General Assembly convenes nexb January. We see also public educa~ tion financing in disarray. ^
Simply put, we need a change in \ Virginia’s leadership and a new Gov- “ emor who is fully aware of the prob- j lems and opportunities that confront k us. George Allen can provide us that! leadership. We hope the voters will* elect him as our next Governor on* Nov. 2. :
