About 25 people attended a Disney presentation at the Amissville Ruritan Club’s meeting last Thursday.
Neil Pender, a Disney employee from Prince William County, showed slides and a short video having to do with the proposed Disney’s America. He said Disney has spent a great deal of time studying the transportation issue, and that 75 percent of those people travelling to the park would be reverse commuters. Reverse commuters, he said, are those drivers who are driving in the opposite direction of most of the traffic, such as people driving to work in the morning or home after work.
Mr. Pender also said that Disney is exploring the possibility of mass transit, including Metro and shuttle buses.
Disney expects to have 5.3 million visitors during its opening year, and 6.3 million annually in following years. In comparison, the Museum of American History hosts 6 million visitors annually, the Air and Space Museum 7.5 million, and Potomac Mills Mall 30 million.
