Last year almost three million Social Security cards were issued to new-born babies through an “Enumeration at Birth” process at hospitals where the children were bom. Included in these hopsitals are Culpeper Memorial and Fauquier.
These three million cards represented about half of all new Social Security cards issued last year.
Through special agreement between the Social Security Administration and the state of Virginia parents may voluntarily choose to have the birth registration form they complete at their local hospital serve as an application for their newborn baby.
