contractor, engineer, and funding agency since the election. Some important decisions relative to the town were made at those meetings, and I indicated that it would have been helpful to the council transition if I had been invited. I was not.
I attended the next construction meeting at 10 a.m. on July 14. I fortunately arrived early and was able to attend a 9 a.m. preliminary meeting as well. After the meetings I was told explicitly by the representative of Farmer’s Home Administration that it was my responsibility as mayor, as both Dean and I knew, to sign and be responsible for funding documentation. Based on this responsibility, I must be involved with the water system. I appreciate Dean’s support and interest and hope it will continue. What our relationship will be is something he and I need to work out with council’s approval. /
To summarize the above paragraphs, the critics of the council are pushing to make the treasurer perform every detail of the town’s financial work. On the other hand, the newspaper and others are proposing that someone else should take care of the mayor’s responsibilities for the water system. I see these views as grandly inconsistent. My goal is that there be moderation, that we work somewhere in between these
