The Board of Supervisors agreed to a compromise on the Jerieo Road/Poe’s Road controversy that has been simmering for several months and thus disposed of the last barrier to implementing the E-911 emergency dispatch system.

They agreed Route 637 would be called Jerieo Road from U.S. 522 in Flint Hill to Richard Settle’s driveway. From that driveway to the intersectiqn with Route 647 is will be named North Poe’s Road and from Route 647 to Route 645 it will be named South Poe’s Road.

The courthouse was packed Monday evening with supporters of Poe’s i Road and Jerieo Road. Howard Holschuh, speaking ks president of the Rappahannock Historical Society, said that the society had traced the name Poe’s Road back through old maps and records to 1740, when what is now Rappahannock County was a part of Orange County.
