flower forms available. Chrysanthemum size differs among varieties but can be manipulated by the gardener. If you would like extra-large blooms, disbud, or remove all of the flower buds on the stem except for the large terminal bud in the center of the cluster. This will greatly reduce the total number of flowers, but the one that does will be larger and more showy. This is the method used, in combination with careful variety selection, to produce the large mums you see used as cut flowers at football games.

Many garden centers have a wide array of mums available in full bloom to dress up your autumn landscape. These mums, grown in gallon containers, can easily be planted anywhere in the garden for instant show.
With care, it even is possible to transplant established mums in bloom from one location to another, more permanent spot. Dig the plants carefully after thorough watering, retaining as much of the root system as feasible.
