Gently loosen a small amount of soil from the outer edge of the root ball and replant in the new location at the same soil depth. Water thoroughly to settle the plants and monitor them for several days. If needed, shade the plants during the hottest part of the day. / Some gardeners try planting greenhouse-grown mums received as potted plants. Unfortunately, most are hardy and won’t survive even the mildest winter. True hardiness, even for the garden varieties, may be marginal in parts ol Virginia. These mums are best grown as annuals. > They Grow Easily, And / Problems Can Be Controlled Chrysanthemums are relatively easy-to-grow perennials. However, , careful site and variety selection and proper cultural practices are needed to assure maximum autumn show. Diseases and insects can cause problems, especially stem rot, powdery mildew, aphid, and spider mite. > Should these or other problems occur, consult your local Extension agent for recommended control measures.
