Mr. McCarthy presented a resolution in support of an amendment to the state constitution that will be on the ballot in the November election. He said that the amendment will bring state laws on registering to vote and purging voter lists into compliance with federal laws that went into effect with the “motor voter” law. 1
Mr. McCarthy explained that if the amendment is not approved the registrar will have to maintain two lists of voters—those eligible to vote in federal elections and those eligible to vote in state and local elections. He said keeping two lists would be expensive and asked the supervisors to adopt the resolution. Because that was an addition to the agenda it required a unanimous vote to pass. Mr. Estes voted against it. /
