To the Editor:

As the Libertarian candidate for the U.S. House of Representative in Virginia’s Tenth Congressional District, I would like to take a moment to discuss the sad state, of affairs in Virginia politicis. This election year, many Virginians will be going to the polls to vote against someone; not for somesome. Why is this?

Our political options have been suffocated by the major political parties through ballot access laws and other re8tricitve legislation. The media pays little attention to thirdparty candidates, and public forums usually ignore independent and third-party candidates by failing to invite them to debates.

With this collusion, it is no surprise that the growth of alternative political options has been slow. Remember, the major political parties are private organizations that have managed to co-opt government, and they have no intention of making things fairer or more open—to do so would threaten their control of the system.

The Libertarian Party is America’s third largest political party. It was formed in 1971 by disaffected Republicans and Democrats at the home of business executive David Nolan in Denver, Colorado. The Libertarian Party stands for a vigorous defense of the Bill of Rights, free enterprise, civil liberties, free trade, and private charity.

Political parties, not voters, determine who the candidates will be. If you don’t like the choices that the major political parties are offering, then you need to become politically active and work for candidates that you like. No one is going to do it for you.

This is why I am running against 14-year incumbent ' Republican Frank Wolf. I lost confidence in Mr. Wolf when he voted for then-President. Bush’s 1990 budget deal that raised our taxes. Wolf since then has also reneged on his promise to serve only 12 years. ,

There are many reasons to vote against Wolf, but there are better reasons to vote for me. I’m for term limits, cutting government, lowering and simplifying taxes, school choice, and protecting your individual rights. If you don’t think I’m a viable candidate, then what do you think about the Democratic Party? Don’t look for their candidate’s name on the ballot because they don’t have one. I would appreciate your vote on Nov. 8. Thank you.
