Gary T. Rafala is the newly appointed Clinic Director of Family Guidance Services of Rappahannock, replacing Linda Mock who left eight months ago.
Mr. Rafala received his Ed.S., Educational Specialist, from James Madison University last May. The post-masters degree gave him more training in counselling, specifically in working with male victims of sexual abuse. He earned his M.S. degree in counseling from the University of Hartford in 1984.
Mr. Rafala has been employed as a mental health therapist at Family Guidance Services for six and one-half v years. His new duties will include public relations, administration and staffing, and he will carry a normal caseload. He plans to concentrate on making Rappahannock residents aware of what his office offers.
The rest of the staff at Family Guidances includes full-time mental health therapist Bob Treanor, part-time psychiatrist Steven Reiter, Office Manager Patti Lanning and Secretary Mary Updike. The three counselors see between 60 to 80 clients weekly. Mr. Rafala also hopes to hire a part-time counsellor specializing in family and childre^i. Dr. Reiter is in the office only on Thursday mornings, as he is one of two psychiatrists who work at Family Guidance Services in Rappahannock, Fauquier, Orange, Madison and Culpeper counties, and Boxwood, a residential treatment center in Culpeper.
