This herbaceous perennial is noteworthy for its wide range of color, size, and shape of flowers. Its usefulness in extending the flower gardening season to the first heavy frost can’t be matched.

Mums can be used in borders en masse, as accent plarits, or even to replant containers that were filled with summer annuals. Their longlasting cut flowers are a welcome bonus after the summer cutting garden has passed its peak.
As chrysanthemums bloom during the shorter days of late summer and early fall, their natural flowering period coincides with the coloring of autumn foliage. Their color range often resembles the leaves of a hardwood forest with yellow, rust, red, and bronze predominating. White-, pink-, and lavender-colored mums also are available.
