according to Helen W. Smith, Extension Agent. Awards were presented to the top 20 high individuals and the top 10 4-H or FFA teams.

“Even though neither of our 4-H members placed in the top 20 individuals, it was still a valuable learning experience for them to compete on the state level,” commented Mrs. Smith.

Jim Massie, Jr., a 4-H parent, accompanied them to the Virginia State Fair in Richmond and served as their coach. 1

Scott, Justin and Katie Updike competed in the Open Angus Show on Friday, Sept. 30 and the Youth Beef, Sheep and Swine Shows on Oct. 1 and 2. Results of their shows were not available at press time.

They were assisted by their parents and 4-H Livestock Club leaders, Mr. and Mrs. Randall Updike.
