BZA Approves
Applications

The Board of Zoning Appeals approved both applications for special use permits presented to them at their meeting last Wednesday.
' Members of the BZA who visited the properties were favorably impressed.
Kay Bare’s application to operate a kennel to board up to 10 dogs was granted approval. Her 17-acre property is on Route 626 in Castleton, and she has had a dog grooming business, “The Pet Tailor,” for several years.
' BZA member Jennifer Matthews said that she visited the property and that everything was clean and quiet (no barking). Sid Gottlieb said that he thinks a kennel is a quality service that the county needs, and that the Planning Commission had no problem with the application.
John McCarthy said that no comments either for or against the kennel were received, and Ms. Bare produced a letter from a neighbor which expressed approval.
After a short discussion, Todd and Jane Burdick were granted permission to operate a bed and breakfast with three guest bedrooms. Their property is in Route 647 in Hint Hill. * Mr. Gottlieb said, “During my visit I was favorably impressed. They are making a special attempt to make their place childrenMendly.” The Burdicks have 2-year old twin sons.
Mr. Burdick said has draft horses and may offer hayrides or something similar later on. ; A letter from Col. White, a neighbor, supported the application. ‘ Approval was granted for the Burdicks to have up to three bedrooms and up to 12 persons. The lighting of their sign must be downlit rather than uplit, and the application is subject to VDOT and Health Department approval.
Mr. Burdick said they do not plan to have their business ready to open until the spring.
Considered next was the twoyear review of the Robert and Helen Bridges bed and breakfast in Gid Brown Hollow. When granted a permit for a tourist home (no meals) in 1992, a condition of the permit was to have a two-year review. He said the Planning Commission voted to remove the meal restriction. Now the business is a bed and breakfast instead of a tourist home.
Sid Gottlieb was reappointed to a five-year term to run until Nov. 1, 1999. Those serving on the Board of Zoning Appeals are appointed by the Circuit Court judge for this district.
