After lagging for three years new home construction picked up in the county in 1994.
Building permits were issued for 58 new residences in 1994 compared to 49 in 1993. This still iags behind the pre-recession rate of 62 in 1990.
The total value of construction in 1994 was just under $10 million according to the year-end report released by building inspector Richie Burke.
Mr. Burke notes that in addition to this amount he inspected $1.2 million worth of construction for the school system for which no fees were collected. The majority of this work involved the addition to the elementary school.
