Librarian Patricia Holmes asked about having some sort of security device installed so the main area of the library can be closed off during evening programs. When refreshments are served, she said people sometimes wander around with them and there is the risk of spilling drinks or grinding cookie crumbs into the rugs. She said one system she had priced would cost $725.

She reported that the big news is that under the budget amendments proposed by Gov. George Allen the library will be level funded, with the same payment from the state next year as this year. All libraries were due to get increases next year before the amendment, she said.
She reported that after weeding out the list of library users to exclude all who had not used the library in three years, there remain 2,725 patrons, 41 percent of the county’s population.
Mrs. Holmes introduced assistant librarian Stella Clark and said story hours will begin again next month. She said she and Mrs. Smith will be getting training in the state's computer system latfer this month.
The board approved her request to purchase a machine that will give taped massages when the library is closed. The machine will not take messages.
