In the front page article about charter schoohs proposals, charter schools are poorly defined, the issues are confusing, and no examples of existing charter schools are given. The Rappahannock News would do well to devote more space to thoroughly researched, informative news articles, and less to opinion pieces of the type on last week’s page B-One.

To the Editor:
Having read the wonderful article in last week’s paper entitled “A Mother Searches for the ‘Right School,’” I felt compelled to write a letter of my own.
Bonnie Lofton and 1 met last year when our sons, James and Josh, were students at Spring Mountain School. We shared many of the same concerns as we began to plan our sons’ educational futures. My decision was much easier, I suppose, because having graduated many years ago from RCHS, and having taught for 15 years in the Virginia Beach Public System, my heart was with the public school.
I knew that the local schools had a history of producing productive, contributing members of society. I also knew that more than 50 percent of my graduating class pursued some form of higher education either at the college or vocational level. This percentage is not usually the case in larg1
