Paratore Begins
Wrestling Program
Paul Paratore hopes to start a wrestling program in the public school system.
Eight boys have signed up so far for the program, which is part of a nationwide program called USA Wrestling. They practice in the wrestling room at Culpeper High School on Saturdays, and are scheduled to participate in at least two matches this season.
Mr. Paratore said that the Booster Club supports the program, but that the School Board must support it before it can become a sport in the public schools. Because the wrestling is so expensive — prices for mats range from $4000 to $8000 — intensive fundraising will be necessary.
If approved by the School Board, Mr. Paratore said there would be a two year youth program followed by two years of junior varsity dt the school. He said that a lot of people have told him they will help if the program is approved by the School Board.
Aileen To Close
Two More Plants
Workers at the Aileen Inc. plants in Woodstock and Edinburg received notice last week that the company will close the plants.
Some were laid off immediately; others will work their last day Friday, Feb. 3. Still others will be laid off March 3.
The Aileen plant in Flint Hill was closed in October.
Aileen, Inc. is reorganizing after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
