Our community was shocked and saddened at the death of Mr. William Thomas (Tom) Winkler who passed away Sunday, Jan. 22 and we offer our deepest sympathy to his wife, daughter, grandchildren and other relatives.

Mr. D.A. Mason returned to his home on Route 522 on Friday after major surgery and a week’s stay in University Hospital, Charlottesville.
Joseph Peregory and his parents and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Peregory and Jennifer attended the Pinewood Derby held at the Washington Fire Hall on Saturday and Joseph was a mighty excited boy as he won the Blue and Gold Trophy, presented to him for being the third place winner, all this connected with Boy Scouts of which he is a member.
At the recent meeting of the Salem Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department Charles Perryman, Jr. was elected to serve as president with Brian Atkins as chief.
Other officers for 1995 are vice president, Leitha Atkins; secretary is Jennifer Seeber and treasurer, Frank Edens. Randy Shiflett and Mary Edens are directors. Serving with Chief Atkins are assistant chief Mike Bailey and captain, Fritz Alderman. The rescue emergency radical captain is Eric Edens. Jeff Peyton, Kevin Winn and Darlyl Fitzgerald make up the rest of the slate of officers.
