The following excerpt from a news article in the Nov. 27, 1994 Richmond Times-Dispatch is about Dinwiddie County. However, the incident could easily have occurred in Rappahannock County and could easily refer to “calls for help” and services available in the Flint Hill area of Rappahannock.
‘Call For Help Not Always
Answered’
“When an early morning car crash on Interstate 85 in May left three people dead and one injured, only two rescue squad workers were oh duty in the county.
“The crash occurred at a time when Dinwiddie typically has few volunteer rescue squad members available for duty. Rescue units from two nearby localities and a state police Med-Flight crew assisted with the wreck.
“The crash highlighted Dinwiddie’s longtime problems with emergency medical coverage, especially during the day.”
The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company is making a sincere appeal to the residents of the Flint Hill area to make their time available to provide Firefighting, Emergency Medical Services, and Fund raising activities.
Flint Hill-Vol. Fire and Rescue has always enjoyed a special kind of financial support from the Flint Hill community and that support is recognized and much appreciated. The problem now is that there are not enough members during the daylight hours to provide a quick response. Many of the members work outside the County and even those working within the area cannot always leave their work to respond to a call.
