The only member of the public to speak during the public hearing, Charles Eldred, suggested the council raise the basic rate no more than $1 to help citizens on fixed incomes. He said the council should not try to establish a reserve yet, but first see if more accurate replacement meters and lower electrical use could produce the reserve.
Following Mr. Eldred’s presentation, Mayor Willis presented a paper listing various rates. In general each $1 increase to the base rate, or 5-cent increase to either the 3,000-10,000 or over 10,000 rate raises $1,500, Mayor Willis said. He had options that would raise $45,500, $47,000 and $48,500. "
Holding the basic rate increase to $1 would have meant an additional S cent increase to one of the other rate categories.
Member Ray Gooch recommended the council adopt the $2 base rate increase. His motion was unanimously approved.
He said there is also a cracked pipe that must be repaired, and once the eyewash station is installed and the pipe repaired, two inspections are required before the water treatment plant can be hooked up.
