Allen's Fund-Raising Tactics
Del. Kenneth R. Plum, D-Fairfax, is questioning Gov. George Allen’s fund-raising tactics.
Del. Plum claims that the governor illegally may have solicited contributions on behalf of the Washington Legal Foundation.
The controversy stems from a donation request Allen wrote on his stationery to a resident of Falls Church on behalf of the foundation.
According to a written statement from Del. Plum along with a letter from J. Carlton Courier III, commissioner of the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the foundation is not registered to solicit contributions in Virginia.
In addition, Del. Plum sent a letter to Attorney General James S. Gilmore III asking him to seek “an appropriate civil penalty” for the foundation.
