February According To The Almanack For February, the snowiest month, according to the Hagerstown Town and Country Almanack expect temperatures “below normal” with “above normal” precipitation. Weather watch: possible flurries, cold temps (17-21), followed by snow, or rain (22-24) and heavy snow or rain (25,26), the month ending fair, cold (27,28). Tornado Watch: No activity of this nature during this period. Full Moon: Known as the Snow Moon, though others refer to it as the Trapper’s Moon (even the Hunger Moon) occurs at 7:15 a.m. EST on the 15th. Remember Lincoln’s Birthday on the 12th and Washington’s on the 22nd, though both are celebrated on President’s Day, the 20th. Observe Shrove Tuesday, the 28th, Mardi Gras, the day before the beginning of Lent. Use up fats by preparing “fastnachts,” or doughnuts. Check around the house for winter storm damage and make repairs as needed. Keep an adequate supply of dry Fire wood for that wood-burning stove or fireplace. J.
