have the matter decided by the House acting as a Committee of the Whole. I supported the initiative, but even its consideration was voted down, 42-58. Another more modest, local illustration: At the request of several Fauquier and Rappahannock residents, I prepared a bill which would have clarified the nearly incomprehensible language of garnishment forms. The bill passed through subcommittee, then was “mysteriously” lost by committee members on the majority side until the time for its approval had elapsed — our party’s best efforts notwithstanding. So again, parliamentary antics “won,” and we, the people, lost.
I am pleased to report that my bills requesting property tax exempt status for Habitat for Humanity in Fauquier and Warren Counties, and for the Rappahannock County Citizens’ League, were approved tliis week by the House. Further, that Delegate Barlow’s bill (D-64yh District), on which I worked closely, will provide gift tax relief for our friends at Faith Mountain.
This week, „1 also voted for Delegate Copeland’s (D-87th District) “Taxpayer Bill of Rights” bill and Delegate Mims’ (R-32nd District) Resolution which outlines a Bill,of Rights for victims of crime.
