Judith Spokes is currently finishing her studies in the master classes of Itzhak Perlman and Juilliard Professor Masao Kawasaki. Among her many awards is first prize in the Manhattanville Concerto Competition. She has made frequent appearances in Carnegie Hall, and together w(jth cellist Kang Xia gave the 1992 premiere of new Chinese works at Carnegie Weill Recital Hall.
Kang Xia is a graduate of.the Shanghai Conservatory of Music where, in 1986, he was awarded first prize in the Young Artists of Shanghai Competition. In 1989 he moved to the United States. He has been a member of several orchestras both in China and in this country. He was awarded a fellowship to the Aspen Festival and was the 1992 winner of the Brooklyn College Concerto Competition.
The young guest artist, J.D. Williams, who will play at the Feb. 19 concert, began his piano studies at the age of seven under Eugenia Evans through the Community Arts Program at Shenandoah University in Winchester. Last summer he was one of 15 students selected internationally to attend the Tanglewood Institute.
There will be a pre-concert talk al 3 p.m. on Feb. 19, at which Berkofsky will discuss Mozart and the pianc trios. Prior to the March 5 concert, ai which the balance of the Mozari piano trios will be performed, there will also be a 3 p.m. talk, by Judith Spokes and Kang Xia, on the topic Chinese music and the influence ol the West.
Tickets for the concert on Feb. IS and the concert on March 5 arc $13.50 with advance reservation, $U at the door. Reservations for both concerts together are $25. Childrei are half price.
