old-time country store items are here too: commeal, fat back for flavoring those soups and beans, canning supplies, baking powder and chewing tobacco.
The pet food section is one of the largest around, and plenty pf bird seed is for sale too.
Mr. Clater said he remembers when the store sold live chickens, back in the 50’s. “We pulled down the chicken houses out back to build the parking lot,” he said.
Many of the customers are oldtimers who have been regulars for many years. Mr. Clater said that they deliver groceries every Friday to a couple of ladies who live in Old Hollow. “But the delivery service is pretty much over with now,” he said.
The store has two cash registers so that when the busy time of day is on customers can be taken care of quickly and there is plenty of room for customers to place their purchases. Mr. Clater is unbelievably fast on the register, calling out the amount due before a customer can get their wallet out.
The store hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
