The Water and Sewer Authority members considered a proposal brought to their meeting earlier this month by member Charles K. “Pete” Estes that would allow the WSA to charge half the regular rate for new lots created in the Sperryville sewer plant service district.
Members indicated they wanted to expand the new regulation to include existing lots and lots wanting more than the service provided for a residence.
The current rate is S21.50 per month for each EDU (equivalent to a dwelling unit.” In the past the Authority has granted reserved sewer rights with no charge. In several cases, they said they were granting them for six months only.
Member Carson Johnson, who has several lots created in anticipation that they are entitled to hook up to the system, said that once the lots are created they cannot be denied sewer service.
Other members are concerned that in the future the plant might not be able to serve new customers because its capacity is tied up in obligation to provide service to owners with reserved rights who are not paying
