Upon his retirement in 1973, Sid and his wife Margaret sold everything they owned and traveled the world working as they went from Australia to Zambia to India where they ran a missionary hospital for a while. During a five year stint near his daughter in Santa Cruz, California, Sid attended school in speech pathology.
“I’ve been in administration a good part of my life. As a volunteer, I’m able to work in the trenches with the troops instead of being in charge. I don’t have to fill up my time with meetings. I like it that way.”
Jean Falk Morgan, Executive Director, shares, “Volunteers are a critical part of our Hospice team. Each volunteer brings their unique talents to our program. Sid, in his world travels, has had the rare opportunity to witness life’s diversity and challenges in an intimate way. He is profoundly receptive to the individual needs of our patients and families and responds with deep compassion. We are very fortunate to have his shining presence in our program!”
Clearly, Hospice work gives Sid satisfaction and his life a richness he treasures. We at Hospice of the Rapidan are proud to name hint our Volunteer of the Year.
Sid and his wife Margaret have been active in several other volunteer activities in Rappahannock County, including RAAC, CCLC, and Ki Theatre. In addition, Sid has worked with the pop quiz team at the high school, and Margaret works with the Literacy Volunteers and tutors at the elementary school.
