and half years, but Mr. Clater has been in the grocery business since 1958. In that year he worked in the store with Jimmy and Myrtle Falls, and later with Wilson Burke, who is the present owner of the Flint Hill Store.
“Wilson taught me to cut meat,” said Mr. Clater. And Sperryville Corner Store appears to have the largest selection of meat in the county. All kinds of steaks are in the display case: porterhouse, T-bone, rib eye, top round, and chuck roast, bottom round roast, eye of round roast. The meat is cut on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so the biggest selection is available on Thursday afternoons.
There is also fresh sausage, pork chops, and chicken (whole and cutup), bacon, deli meats, canned crab meat, and oysters, with the oyster crackers to go with them.
The produce section is also well stocked, with two sizes of onions, potatoes, cabbage, radishes, carrots, lettuce, celery, garlic, and fresh fruit.
