The 804 area code will be divid-; ed, with 804 continuing to serve'a large portion of the state including Richmond and Charlottesville. 1
A new area code 757 will be ere-,* ated to serve the Eastern Shore aftd‘
the Hampton Roads area including'; Williamsburg, Newport New^ Norfolk and Virginia Beach. This change will take place in 1997, according to Paul Miller, a telecommunications industry spokesman.
It will be the second area codecs the state without a 0 or 1 for the sec!* ond digit. ",
