Mr. Trott was fortunate to be bom and reared in the small North Carolina town of New London, 40 miles northeast of Charlotte, in a rural area where his father enjoyed hunting. The elder Trott introduced his son while still a small boy to the fascination of nature. Mr. Trott attributes his development not only to his father’s influence, but also to his mother, who gave him a camera when he was a teenager. Other major influences were his college professor, Roland Totten, and Allen and Helen Cruickshanks were professional bird photographers who instilled in him the ethical and artistic principles of nature study and photography that have guided him ever since.
