I saw a lot of new faces on a recent visit to the Virginia General Assembly, but ended up that evening in a nostalgic session with some old friends from Raleigh Hotel days.
The Raleigh, located at the foot of the capitol, was where I landed in a $9 a night room when I first started covering the legislature in the 1960s.
Among other tenants were Tom Moss of Norfolk, now Speaker of the House, State Sen. Warren Barry of Fairfax, then a member of the House, Del. Vince Callahan of Fairfax and former delegate Garry DeBruhl who is now one of the state’s most influential lobbyists.
