Pack Championship race. Many heats were very close with the finish line judges having to discern quarter-inch differences as the Pinewood cars shot past. The task was made somewhat easier by the very individualistic paint jobs on many of the cars. Every scout expressed himself differently. There was a sleek black racer, a metallic blue car with flames, a pure silver “bullet” car, and a neon orange racer with tiger stripes as well as many other original designs.
Winners in the den races were: Tigers — Sebastian LaPelch; Wolves — Andrew Treanor; Bears — Jacob Stilley; Webelos I — Henry Robertson; Webelos II — D.J. Frye.
Now it vyas time to determine which was the fastest car in the Fire Hall. The top placing car in each den took part in a final series of races. The slower cars were gradually eliminated and the faster ones remained in for the next round. Cheers and applause greeted the announcement of the final placings. First place in the Pack Championship Race went to Andrew Treanor. Henry Robertson and his “Silver Bullet” took second place and Sebastion LaPelch was awarded the third place trophy.
The enthusiasm and good sportsmanship displayed by the scouts and their families made the 1996 Pinewood Derby a resounding success. Congratulations to all the scouts
