With the obvious media bias in reporting, voters this year will have to dig for the truth in order to make an intelligent decision for whom to vote Nov. 5.

Republicans have been portrayed as cutting Medicare when, in fact, they propose to limit the growth, not cut.

According to a L.A. Times survey, 55 percent of newspaper reporters said they were liberal: only 17 percent conservative. The Lichter study of 1992 TV coverage showed 50 percent positive reporting for Clinton, but 70 percent negative for Bush.

Do we see so much violence, dishonesty and immorality that we are becoming desensitized?

When President Clinton's main political advisor resigned following a sex scandal, Clinton's press secretary said, "Each candidate will be judged on his own character by the American people." Tire, but only if we're given the facts.

Since Clinton is espousing Republican ideas now, we should vote for Dole and get the benmefit of good character as well.

Wow! It's October already. The month of September flew by, and, once again, wonderful things are happening in the Rappahannock County public schools. It has been very gratifying for me this year to be able to find volunteers to assist so many teachers with needs so early in the year. I have had far more responses from parents and friends in the community who are eager to help in. our schools this year than last, and we are thrilled with the enthusiastic assistance.

We have tutors, computer lab monitors, clerical help, library workers, receptionists, speakers, student tutors, in fact, we have a wonderful community of volunteers at each school, and that spirit is helping each school to thrive. It is exciting to see so many people pulling together to help the students in our community.

There are still many volunteer positions available, however. If you can spare one hour, one-half day, one day, or more, per week, we can find the perfect spot for you. You will feel good about yourself, and you will be so appreciated by students as well as teachers.

At RCHS, we still need volunteers to help in the library and assist with the school's election the day before Election Day, tutors who speak Spanish, clerical assistance for teachers, and accompanist for chorus and more. Can you help with any of these requests?

At RCES, we would appreciate volunteers who will tutor, display student art work, do clerical work (filing, copying etc.), accompany the chorus for special programs, help in the library, etc. Please call 987-8259.

I am anxious to hear from you. Together we can be sure that all of Rappahannock's schools are the best that they can be!
