The house burnt completely, the only part left being the walk-in basement. Bonser was renting the house from Rabbi Carla Theodore, the owner, who lives close by.
Bonser was concerned about his dog, which was missing after the fire, said Burke. The dog was found by neighbors two days later.
They took the dog to a veteranarian as it had been burned. They also called the county animal warden who came to get the dog. The dog, though injured, is still alive.
Bonser suffered some burns on his | hands and face and was transported from the scene by the Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad to Culpeper Memorial Hospital.
Charlotte Cannon, of the CMH community relations department, said he was treated in the emergency room on Feb. 26 and then admitted to the hospital for additional treatment. He was released on Feb. 28.
