The U.S. Postal Service has just released a preliminary list of vote leaders in Celebrate the Century balloting for the 1950s stamps. Voting for the 1950s stamps continued through Feb. 28. Early stamp subject leaders include Victory Over Polio, Drive-in Movies, Tail Fins and Chrome, Rock ‘n’ Roll and “I Love Lucy.”
Celebrate the Century is a commemorative stamp and education program honoring the most memorable and significant people, places, events and trends of each decade of the 20th century. The program marks the first time in history that the public, including school children, is invited to vote on the subjects honored on U.S. postage stamps.
Ballots are available at all post offices nationwide and via the Internet at http://stampvote.msn.com/. They list 30 candidates divided into five categories — people and events, arts and entertainment, sports, science and technology and lifestyle.
