Dr. David Gangel invited the supervisors for a tour of the high school and lunch on April 6 in order to re-acquaint supervisors with the classroom set up and classes which will be needed at RCHS.
Gangel had received a review and assessment from the Virginia Department of Education on future program needs based on information provided by the county to the state. Based on the information the state recommended the following classrooms be added: A combination band/chorus room; one art classroom; one health classroom; an additional general classroom; an additional computer lab; an additional science lab; two self-contained special education classroomd; and two special education resource classrooms.
He also reported that the school board is assessing the cost effectiveness of the vocational classes at GWCPiedmont TEC and looking at the possibility of incorporating the vocational programs into the curriculum in the county. Estes said he felt the school system should have a fall back position before taking the step to withdraw from the ' Piedmont program. He said, ' “There are students here who need those courses.”
