DHEA-S has been used as a marker for cardiovascular risk and high levels of perceived stress were linked with low DHEA-S levels.

According to the reviewed studies, frequent episodes of high psychological stress cause a number of changes in the body which have an adverse effect on the cardiovascular system and increase the risk for high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke and other related problems. Low levels of chronic stress do not necessarily have this effect (at least in the results of the studies reviewed.
