More recent studies have discussed the degree of “platelet activity” in the blood (tendency of the blood to form clots) as a major factor related to risk for atherosclerosis and heart attacks. Acute episodes of stress tend to increase blood platelet activity thus increasing the risk.
• Results of a number of studies have indicated that stress can lead to the limitation of oxygen to heart muscles. This may be due to the fact that stress causes the constriction of blood vessels around the heart, as well as increasing oxygen demands by all tissues in the body.
