Hubert S. Gilkey, chairman and Wakefield District supervisor for the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors for the last 18 years, formally resigned at Monday’s meeting of the board amid many comments from the public and board members lauding his service to the county.
Phil Irwin of Flint Hill said, “In looking back at the board, before many of you were on it, I have only praise for your work on this board. Thank you Mr. Gilkey.”
Joy Sloane, president of the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, presented Gilkey* with several books on the county’s heritage.
“Thank you for your service to the people of Rappahannock and to our school children,” said Sharon Kilpatrick of Woodville. “I have always seen you as a strong supporter of public education.”
Bernie Fisken, of Flint Hill said, “I would join others in recognizing the fine work you all do on the board of supervisors. Hubie, you’ve done a wonderful job and set a high standard for the next chairman.”
