Gilkey goes
Estes to take over as board chair,
Welch to walk in Gilkey’s shoes
The county said goodbye this week to Hubert S. Gilkey when he formally resigned from the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors. Gilkey has served more than above and beyond what a community could or should expect and has been ever the voice of reason on the board. Eighteen years is a long time to serve in such a capacity and he has done so in a manner that has residents regretful of the fact that he is leaving. That is quite an achievement in this day and age. He is going on to fulfill personal goals and we wish him well. His successor is to be Charles K. “Pete” Estes — a supervisor with almost as many years as Gilkey in service to the county. And, Roger A. Welch has been appointed to serve as the Wakefield District Supervisor. Gilkey leaves the board in good hands.
