Ragged Mountain activities

The following activities are scheduled at Ragged Mountain Resource Center:

Saturday, March 14: Second Saturday Hike Series, meet at Mountainside Market on U.S. 211, west of Sperryville between 9 and 9:30 a.m., return mid-afternoon, Hazel Mountain Trail/White Rocks Trails loop.

Friday, March 20, Ragged Mountain Resource Center’s “Blue Ridge to the Bay” Educational Speaker’s Series, Rappahannock County Library, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Guest speaker Thom Savage will discuss the Agricultural Stewardship.

Saturday, March 21, “Trash Free Rappahannock” initiates first annual month-long clean-up campaign. $10,000 available (at $3 per bag) for individuals and organizations that collect roadside trash in Rappahannock County between March 21 and April 18. There will be additional awards for top three totals.

Poetry reading at Ki Theatre

Poet Gregory Orr will give a reading of his work on Friday, March 6 at 8 p.. at Ki Theatre. Orr teaches at the University of Virginia, is poetry editor of the Virginia Quarterly Review, and has had several collections of his poetry and prose published. He is currently working on a book entitled Three Strange Angels: Survival, Healing, and Lyric Poetry. His reading is part of‘The Many Faces of Poetry Project” currently under way at RCHS. Admission is free, but a donation of $3 by adults would be appreciated to help support additional poetry events. For information, call 675-1819.

Spring citrus fruit sale set

The Rappahannock Band Boosters are currently selling citrus fruit for the Spring season. Red Grapefruit and Valencia Oranges are available and may be ordered by calling Sally Havstad at 987-8342 or Betty Thomas at 6753293. The deadline is March 9. Pickup is scheduled for March 19 and 20 from 2 to 4:45 p.m. and March 21 from 8 to 11:45 a.m. at the Rappahannock Coop.
