It was an appropriate choice of play for our favorite state of Virginia. On July 28, 1609, the Sea Venture, a ship bearing Sir Thomas Gates, Sir George Somers and Capt Newport, carrying supplies' and settlers to the new colonies in Virginia, was ship-" wrecked on the Bermudas.
The survivors spent sever-, al months in Bermuda, built two small vessels from timbers of the wrecked ship, and proceeded to Virginia. Accounts of the adventure were published in London. “The Tempest” was written about two years later. The pro-, duction at RCHS has added to that history.
