ten.
That we remember our dead once a year by visiting or cleaning the grave sites is such a feeble attempt from us. They struggled very much for us, not only giving their lives, as it were, in war but in times of peace too, not perhaps always for their country but always for their family.
Do we soon dispel our grief,
That with their death’s we find relief
From our duties to them ever more?
Did we inherit from their labors,
Did they turn their backs on family and neighbors,
Would they live to die all o’er?
To see we have forgotten so quick,
Just somehow makes me sick,
To know they would’ve the burden bore.
‘Tis but a grave, they’re not there so what the heck ?
But isn’t it just out of common respect,
That we’d remember them more?
What, two hours to clean a grave is too long among the dead,
While the living have needs too we still turn our head,
I guess we’ve no consciences for sure.
