Rappahannock News Staff Writer
Rappahannock and Fauquier county supporters of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life annual walk-athon held last weekend at Airlie outside Warrenton donated more than $50,000 to the society. The 23 Rappahannock teams have brought in $24,349.82 to date, surpassing the $18,000 mark set last year.
County coordinator Ester Settle reported that the Bennie Atkins team, captained by Bengy and Becky Atkins of Chester Gap, won top honors with over $3,600 in donations. Runners up were the Gay Street Walkers, captained by Jan Palmer and Beverly Atkins of Washington, and the Ester Settle Faith Warriors, captained by Betty Settle, from Settle’s Garage in Flint Hill. Eleven other county teams reached their $1,000 goals.
