June’s temperatures according to the Hagerstown Town and Country Almanack will be average, with precipitation below average.
Weather watch: The month opens with a fair, warm period following (3-6). Then, scattered showers (7,8) with fair, very warm days (9-11); showers, storms should follow (12,13) and fair, very hot temps (14-16). Look for periods of rain (17-18), before fair very warm days (19,20). Showers on the horizon (21,22) with more showers, storms (23-25). Fair, very warm days (24,25), the month ending with an extended period of scattered showers, very warm (26-30).
Tornado watch: Be on the look out 21, 22.
Full Moon: Occurs on the 9th at 12:18 p.m. EDT. Referred to by some as the Flower Moon, in honor of the many roses and other beautiful blooms, others name it the Strawberry Moon, no doubt thinking of those luscious “short cakes” and handchurned” ice cream.
The Summer Solstice welcomes the summer days as the Sun enters the House of Cancer on the 21st at 10:03 a.m., EDT.

Schools are almost over for the summer, so be especially careful when driving in areas where children might be playing. With their newfound freedom, youngsters often chase after a ball into a busy street without first looking.
In the garden: A good heavy mulch applied early in the spring will keep strawberries easier to pick with much cleaner fruit.
