Add to any of these scenarios a child’s moment of volatility, or possibly Rappahannock’s favorite recreational drug, alcohol, and you have the ingredients for horrible tragedy.
Gun owners: If you must keep guns at home, please lock all your weapons in a heavy-duty cabinet, safely out of reach and out of sight. Secure the ammunition separately under lock and key. Hide the key. Treat the guns and ammunition as the dynamite they can be in the wrong hands, at the wrong time. Register your firearms, and immediately report to police and the schools the theft of any guns or ammunition. Always model safe gun use and respect. Do not leave weapons in your vehicle.
